Italian Auto Icons 2015 display
Italian motoring enthusiasts were treated to a colourful display of classic and rare cars and motorcycles in a closed-off section of Lygon Street on Sunday, 1st March. Hosted by the Italian Auto Icons, the event is now in its second year.
Taking full advantage of Melbourne’s sunny skies, an estimated 3000-plus spectators mingled among over 50 classic and exotic Italian cars, plus a variety of motorcycles and scooters.
Vespa Club of Melbourne was well represented by its members, as well as a new model display from Vespa Australia and iconic scooters from Melbourne’s oldest Vespa dealer, Vespa House.
The feature motorcycle of the event was an iconic 1972 Ducati 450 Desmo ‘Silver Shotgun’ which attracted the most attention and had a handy info sheet attached to the handlebar for passers-by to read. An estimated 1000 of these models were produced and approximately 200 came to Australia.
Vespa Australia (PSI Importers) provided the second prize in a raffle to raise funds for Murdoch’s Childrens Research Institute, where one lucky winner received a new Vespa 125 Primavera. Zagame Automotive also provided a new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Progression as first prize. The raffle was drawn the following day.
