MOTO EXPO Brisbane 2014

The inaugural MOTO EXPO at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds is on this weekend, March 21-23. Spread over 30,00sqm the event is set to be the largest motorcycle exhibition in Queensland and showcases the latest motorcycles, products and services plus a full entertainment line-up across the three days.

This year’s event will feature some of the world’s rarest motorcycles, plus the latest new models, test rides, racing entertainment with the Baylisstic Scramble and a special tribute to three-time World Champion, Jason Crump, who will be honoured within the MOTO EXPO Hall of Fame.

What’s on at MOTO EXPO:

Thirty-five historic and rare motorcycles valued at over $1.5m collectively will be on display, including:

– A 1911 Triumph TT racer, one of only two in the world

– 1913 Precision, the only one worldwide

– A 1959 Matchless Dirt Track Racer – raced at the RNA Showgrounds throughout the 1960s

– A factory works SR500 which was ridden by five-time World Motocross Champion George Jobe in the 1984 World 500 Championship

Plus the return of the Geoff Grocott built Vincent HRD Speedway Sidecar which current owner Ray Andrieux purchased in 1969, raced throughout the early 1970s and sold in the late ’70s. Mr Andrieux bought back his old Vincent in 2006 and spent two years finding the missing parts and restoring it.

Event organiser, Troy Bayliss, said, “To bring all of these rare motorcycles together in one exhibition is huge achievement.

“It is especially fitting that we will have two of the original bikes that raced at the RNA Showgrounds in the 1970s on display.”

Motorcycle manufacturers will be showcasing their new models, including some never seen here before:

– Victory will unveil its highly anticipated V-Twin Gunner

– BRP will launch the 2014 Can-Am Spyder RT roadster

– Yamaha will be unveiling new models along with a concept bike

– Harley-Davidson will feature three brand new models, the SuperLow 1200T tour-ready Sportster, the custom model Street Bob Special and the revived Low Rider

– Vespa’s new Primavera will be making its Australian debut

– BMW Motorrad: In addition to the existing 2014 range, four new models will be on display – the R nine T, R 1200 GS Adventure, R 1200 RT and S 1000 R.

Event Manager Mark Petersen, said, “MOTO EXPO is certainly going to be a massive show.

“To see so many new bikes being released by the manufacturers is a great sign for the industry”

Motorcycle manufacturers including Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Benelli, Bimoto, Indian, Victory and Can Am will all host organised test rides for licenced riders keen to try a new brand or model.

Polaris, Artic Cat, Yamaha and Can Am will also offer rides on their popular side-by-side machines within the event precinct.

Kids are catered for with Yamaha hosting a ‘come and try a’ zone where they are invited to ride their range in a secure area, under the supervision of experts. KiddiMoto will also have a range for children to try within a safe demonstration area.

The Motul Pirelli Baylisstic Scramble presented by InsureMyRide features five star-studded teams of four riders personally invited by Troy Bayliss. The teams will compete on a purpose built dirt flat track within the main arena on Saturday March 22 between 6pm and 8pm.

The 20-rider line-up includes some of Australia’s motorcycle racing royalty such as three-time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss, three-time Speedway World Champion Jason Crump, World Supersport Champion and MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen, motocross legend Stephen Gall, former WSBK and Moto GP racer Gary McCoy, World Supersport Champion Karl Muggeridge multiple dirt track Champion Paul Caslick, former WSBK and Moto GP racer Gary McCoy, World Supersport Champion Karl Muggeridge, and multiple Australian Superbike Champion, Jamie Stauffer.

Event organiser and Team Captain, Troy Baliss, said, “It is awesome to be bring motorcycle racing back to Brisbane’s RNA Showground’s.

“This event will be like no other and adds another dimension to MOTO EXPO.

“We have an incredible line-up of racers from a range of disciplines and to have them racing each other in the middle of Brisbane city is a huge coup,” he said.

MOTO EXPO will pay homage to one of Australia’s most successful motorcycle racers, three-time Speedway World Champion Jason Crump.

Crowned World Champion in 2004, 2006 and 2009, Crump also led Australia to victory in the 1999 Speedway World Team Cup as well as both the 2001 and 2002 Speedway World Cups.

Over the weekend Crump will be doing a series of speedway demonstrations on-board his 2012 NZ Grand Prix bike and will be honoured within the MOTO EXPO ‘Hall of Fame’.

“I am looking forward to doing some demonstration laps at the RNA Showgrounds on my Speedway bike…It has been 15 years since I last raced there,” he said.

“I have some great gear that has never been seen in Australia before which will be on display in the ‘Hall of Fame’ alongside my 2004 championship winning bike.

“It is going to be a very busy weekend but I am really looking forward to it. As well as all the on track activities and the ‘Hall of Fame’ I will also be hosting a stand with my new venture the Australian Motorcycle Racing Academy,” he added.
