PS Importers New Distributors For Aprilia And Moto Guzzi
Aprilia and Moto Guzzi will be distributed in Australia by motorcycle industry giant PS Importers, replacing John Sample Automotive.
The mutual agreement, between John Sample Automotive, Piaggio Group and PS Importers, comes as a consolidation of brand distribution, according to the parties. Aprilia and Moto Guzzi are owned by the Piaggio Group, comprising Vespa and Piaggio, which are already distributed by PS Importers.
The transfer of distribution will take place over coming months and is expected to be completed this year. Details such as the implications on affected staff within John Sample Automotive were yet to be determined as MT went to print.
“As to what will happen [to staff] and how the integration will carry out, we’ll obviously attempt to integrate as many people as possible into the wider business,” John Sample Automotive general manager Ezio Forcella told MT.
“At this stage, there’s still so much up in the air.”
In a joint statement, John Sample Automotive executive chairman John Sample thanked retailers and customers for their support.
“We believe this consolidation of the brands will ensure the economies of scale necessary for them to grow and thrive in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive industry,” he said. “We now pass the baton to PS Importers who we know will manage the brands and the dealer network with professionalism and passion.”
PS Importers managing director Paul Chiodo said it made sense to add Moto Guzzi and Aprilia to its current Piaggio and Vespa scooter distribution.
“We have a strong relationship with the Piaggio Group and this further enhances our product offering of the best European brands,” he said.
John Sample Automotive introduced Aprilia motorcycles to the Australian market
in 1997 and added Moto Guzzi to its stable in 2003.
