Rollin In The Sands of Time

Meet your next family heirloom: the Roland Sands Ronin jacket.  This leather jacket exudes high-end style with hidden substance and it looks, feels and smells wonderful.

The motorcycle-specific jacket is well suited to a range of riders – be it cruiser bruisers or café kids – but the beauty of it is that you can wear it anywhere, not just while riding, which means its oiled leather (1.2mm thick on main body) is super supple and super comfortable. Styling highlights include a ‘shorty’ snap collar, front zip pockets, pre-curved sleeves, lovely perforated leather sleeves and clever internal pockets.

It also features some impressive fine detail including gold satin lining with subtle sketches from Roland’s notebook, a cool zip pocket on the sleeve and an internal key hook. Our only criticism would be that the specific, CE-certified armour costs extra. In this case, $39.95 for the elbows and shoulders areas apiece and $49.95 for the back protector. Sure it’s an optional thing for the typical buyer of this style of jacket, but it would be nice if the armour came ‘in the box’.

At least the provisions are there and the armour is chick feed in the scheme of things. Sweet talk the salesperson and they might throw them in for you. One touch of that leather and you’ll be hooked. Available in black, tobacco and a very cool ‘ox blood’ with black sleeves.

Roland Sands Clash Jacket

Also from Roland Sands Design comes the classic men’s Clash jacket. RSD characterises it as a ‘detailed rocker-style’ jacket and advises that it’s fashioned from ‘Airborne’ hand-finished, washed and oiled/waxed top grain cowhide that’s up to 1.1mm thick. There’s an offset zipper, shorty snap collar and front zip pockets.

RSD calls it an ‘aggressive riding fit’ with pre-curved sleeves and an extended back to suit a crouching-rider posture. There are quilted accents on the shoulders and lower back, riveted elbows and perforated-leather interior trims.

It also features a sleeve zipped pocket and side zipper waist-adjust buckles, a satin poly lining and armour-ready pockets for the elbows, shoulders and spinal protection. As well as a zip-close interior chest pocket, there’s a soft-lined electronics security pocket. Available in ox blood and black in small to 3XL sizes.

Boyz N the Hood by Bull-It

Another jacket option is the Bull-it Jeans stylish Roadster. The hoodie style jacket features Covec Laser 4 protection in the arms, shoulders and sides of the jacket, which offers an abrasion resistance in excess of six seconds, according to tests conducted to the CE 13595-1 standard.

In addition, the jacket also features CE armour in the shoulders and elbows along with a foam backpad. The jacket provides a thermal barrier to keep the user warm in winter and cool in summer, while an inner mesh layer also ensures moisture is drawn away from your skin. It also has all the standard features bike jackets need including zipped pockets and belt loops at the back to attach to jeans. Available in men’s and ladies’ sizes S to 5XL.
